Reports of Moldova's State Chancellery, Foreign Affairs Ministry on implementation of Moldova-Eu Association Agreement heard in parliament

Chisinau, 31 January /MOLDPRES/ - The parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration today heard the report of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) and State Chancellery on the developments of the implementation of the Moldova-European Union Association Agreement by the national authorities.   

Attending the public hearings, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu referred to the actions undertaken, after Moldova had got the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union.   

„We adopted a plan on the implementation of those nine recommendations of the European Commission, formulated for Moldova. The recommendations regard mainly the justice reform, fighting the corruption and organized crime, as well as the strengthening of the administrative capacities of accession to the European Union,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu said.    

At the meeting, Government’s Secretary General Igor Talmazan touched upon the process of adjusting the national legislation with the EU’s one. Thus, 377 out of 705 EU acts, established for enforcement under the Agreement, have been fully transposed and 158 were partially transposed. At the same time, 144 EU acts were not transposed and 17 were identified as being non-enforceable for Moldova.  

In this respect, the authorities are set to boost the level of approximation of Moldova’s legislation to the EU acquis, as well as to carry out the plan on speeding up the implementation of the commitments coming from the European Commission’s Opinion. Therefore, the parliament will receive a list of legislative priorities if the government for the 2023 spring session.   

In March 2022, Moldova officially submitted the application on accession to the European Union. Subsequently, the European Council recognized Moldova’s European perspective and ruled to give it the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union.
