Documentary play to be presented on Moldovan parliament's square
Chisinau, September 21, 2026 – The documentary play, titled, The Night Written in Red, directed by Luminita Tacu and featuring actors from the Theatre Without a Name, will be presented on September 25 on parliament square starting from 19:00. Admission is free.
The play brings to the forefront an important page in the history of Moldova and speaks about the courage to think freely, resistance and the price of freedom at a time when the collapse of the Soviet Union seemed unimaginable. Through documentary theatre, the performance brings back to the public’s attention testimonies and lives marked by the Soviet totalitarian regime, as well as the persecution directed against those who had the courage to freely express their convictions. The central thread of the story is built around the lives of two young women, Lilia Andruh and Asea Neagu.
The event is part of a string of activities dedicated to International Day of Democracy and also takes place on the commemorative period dedicated to tragic moments in the country’s history: 85 years since the first wave of Stalinist deportations and 80 years since the beginning of the orchestrated famine.
By organizing this play, the parliament aims to contribute to preserving historical memory and promoting democratic values, freedom and human dignity. Knowing the past is essential for understanding the value of freedom and building a society in which fundamental rights and freedoms are respected.
The event is organized by the parliament of Moldova, in partnership with the Culture Ministry and the Theatre Without a Name of the Ginta Latina Culture and Art Center.
