Moldovan PM meets with Irish Ambassador

The Government of the Republic of Moldova

Attracting Irish investment to Moldova, developing economic relations and advancing the European Union accession process have been the main topics discussed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan with Ambassador of Ireland to Moldova Myles Geiran.

The PM appreciated Ireland’s continued support for Moldova, including throughout the EU accession process. In the context of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, Vasile Tofan reiterated the country’s objective of opening all negotiation clusters by the end of 2026.

The prime minister also welcomed Ireland’s decision to open its first resident embassy in Chisinau, noting that a permanent diplomatic presence would contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.

An important topic of the meeting was the strengthening of economic relations and attracting Irish companies to sectors with potential, such as agriculture, construction and aviation. The sides also discussed the opportunity for Moldova to become a regional platform for companies involved in Ukraine’s reconstruction process.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan noted that Ireland’s experience in attracting foreign investment, developing a competitive economy and leveraging the opportunities of the European single market represents a relevant model for Moldova.
