LIVE // Moldovan president welcomes Romania's head of state in Chisinau on Moldova’s Independence Day

President of Romania Nicusor Dan, on a visit to the Republic of Moldova today on the occasion of Independence Day, is being welcomed at the Presidency by President Maia Sandu.

The official welcome at the Presidency will be followed by a one-on-one meeting between the two heads of state, after which the officials will take part in the military parade organized on the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau to mark Moldova’s Independence Day.

Before arriving in Chisinau, the President of Romania travelled to Cahul, where he visited the construction site of the Republican Musical-Dramatic Theatre “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” and the “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” University Center.

The visit’s agenda will continue in the evening, when President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is also expected in Chisinau. At 18:45, a trilateral meeting is scheduled, with the participation of Maia Sandu, Nicusor Dan and Volodymyr Zelensky, after which the three heads of state will deliver joint press statements.

At the same time, Nicusor Dan and Volodymyr Zelensky will join President Maia Sandu at the festive concert dedicated to Moldova’s Independence Day.

The Republic of Moldova is celebrating 35 years since the proclamation of its independence. The schedule of events dedicated to Independence Day began in the morning with flower-laying ceremonies at the Grieving Mother monument at the Eternity Memorial Complex and at the monument of Ruler Stephen the Great and Holy. In the afternoon, a military parade will be held on the Great National Assembly Square. The evening will culminate in a concert featuring local artists.
