Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is paying a visit to Chisinau today, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova. The official was welcomed by Head of State Maia Sandu at the Presidency.

After the official welcoming ceremony, a trilateral meeting of the delegations of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine will take place at the Presidency, with the participation of President Maia Sandu, the President of Romania Nicusor Dan and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. This will be followed by press statements of the three heads of state.

In the evening, President Maia Sandu and the two high-ranking guests will go to the Great National Assembly Square, where a concert will be held on the occasion of Independence Day. After 21:00, the officials will address the citizens.

The Republic of Moldova is celebrating today 35 years since the proclamation of its Independence. The schedule of events dedicated to Independence Day started in the morning with flower-laying ceremonies at the Grieving Mother monument at the Eternity Memorial Complex and at the monument of Ruler Stephen the Great and Holy. In the afternoon, a military parade was held on the Great National Assembly Square. The evening will culminate with a concert featuring local artists.

The events dedicated to the 35 years of independence will take place in the capital and across the whole country throughout the day.

The Republic of Moldova proclaimed its independence on 27 August 1991, when the Parliament adopted the Declaration of Independence.
