PM says road covered by Moldovans to become masters of own destiny difficult

The road travelled to become masters of our own destiny has been a difficult one. We must realize how important that step was and how far our country has advanced in these 35 years. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today made statements to this effect, who thanked all Moldovans who contributed to consolidating the  Independence.

The PM stressed that the results achieved over the last three and a half decades proved the importance of the historic moment of August 27, 1991.

“I want to thank all Moldovans who contributed to consolidating our independence. Today we can think freely and we can travel freely. The road we travelled to become masters of our own destiny was a difficult one. I understand that many people may have had higher expectations from independence, and that they have not been fully met. At the same time, we must realize how important that step was and how far our country has advanced in these 35 years,” said Vasile Tofan. Today morning, he laid flowers at the Eternity Memorial Complex, alongside President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Independence.

At the same time, Vasile Tofan underlined the government’s priority to make efforts for the development of the country and the improvement of living conditions for citizens.

“At the government, we understand that expectations are high, and our duty is to live up to them,” said the prime minister.

The PM thanked all those who had fought for the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova in 1992, stressing that his uncle was among them.

“I remember very well the moment when he returned home and fired several shots in memory of a comrade who had fallen in battle. There were many such Moldovans, some of whom sacrificed their lives. Today it is very important to remember them, to pay tribute to all those who fought for this country,” said Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

The Republic of Moldova is celebrating today 35 years since the proclamation of Independence. On this occasion, the Presidents of Romania and Ukraine, Nicusor  Dan and Volodymyr Zelensky are expected in Chisinau, at the invitation of President Maia Sandu, to take part in the events dedicated to this day.

The schedule of events began with the laying of flowers at the Grieving Mother monument at the Eternity Memorial Complex, which was erected in memory of the heroes who fell defending the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. Subsequently, President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Vasile Tofan laid flowers at the monument to Stephen the Great and Holy in the center of the capital.

The events dedicated to the 35 years of independence will take place throughout the day in the capital and across the entire country.
