Runoff for appointment of mayor to be organized in Balti

Chisiau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/- Preliminary results of yesterday's new local elections show that in Balti and five other localities in the country no candidate has accumulated 50 percent of the votes cast to win the first-round mayoral election.

According to the Electoral Code, if none of the candidates has accumulated at least half of the number of votes cast by the voters who participated in the elections, a second ballot will be held in two weeks. In the second round, the first two candidates established in the order of decreasing the number of votes obtained in the first round participate.

According to the preliminary data of the new elections in Balti, none of the 11 candidates who participated in the election gathered more than 50 percent of the votes cast to win the first round. The candidate of the Șor Party, Marina Tauber, accumulated about 48 percent of the votes and for the independent candidate Nicolai Grigorișin they voted about 21 percent.

In Bălți, there was a turnout of about 33 percent, the lowest recorded so far in the election of a mayor.
