VIDEO // Government Secretary General about local public administration reform

The villages remain – the town halls merge. This means more money managed together and better services for all citizens. The message was delivered today by Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu, who published an explanatory video about the local public administration reform.

The official emphasized that the reform will allow an increase in local budgets and the creation of stronger town halls.

“Some people are afraid of one thing: ‘If we merge, will our village disappear?’ The answer is simple: no. The village remains yours, with its name, its church, its people, and its history. Only the town halls are merging, so that the administration becomes stronger. The villages remain. The town halls merge. This means more money managed together and better services for everyone: water, roads, sewage, lighting. No one loses their village. Everyone gains a stronger town hall,” said Alexei Buzu.

According to the latest information presented by the authorities, so far, around 790 town halls in the country are involved in the voluntary amalgamation process.

At the end of January, the Government announced the launch of the preparation process for the local public administration reform, as part of efforts to modernize the administration and improve public services. Subsequently, the authorities organized extensive public consultations, after which the reform concept was presented.

Parliament recently approved legislative amendments that simplify and improve the process of voluntary amalgamation of administrative-territorial units. According to the authorities, the changes were developed following consultations in which over 4,500 mayors and citizens participated.
