
Apă-Canal Chisinau enterprise urges residents to rationally consume water during dog days
Chisinau, 18 July /MOLDPRES/ - The administration of the Apa-Canal Chisinau stock company has urged entrepreneurs and the residents of the Moldovan capital to rationally consume water and only on household purposes. The enterprise’ director, Irina Gutnic, made the demand at the weekly meeting of the Chisinau city hall’s municipal services.
According to the leadership of Apa-Canal Chisinau, because of the drought, the level of water in the Dniester and Prut rivers is decreasing; yet, this fact will not hit the consumers from the Moldovan capital.
„Presently, the water’s level is of 8.6 metres in Dniester, which allows the pumping station working. Thus, over 200,000 cubic metres of water are daily distributed. The most critical level of the Dniester river level is 8.1 metres and was recorded on the period of dog days two years in a row. Namely therefore, an underwater dam was constructed at the water collection station on Dniester river in 2021. Thanks to this dam, the level of water nearby the station increased, which allows its good work,’’ Irina Gutnic said.
In the summer of 2008, when the floods on Dniester occurred, the maximal level of water level was hit - about 19.4 metres. On that period, Chisinau was supplied with water 24 hours, although the pumping station from Vadul lui Voda worked in alert regime. A less risky situation was recorded in the summer of 2010, when only the Vadul lui Voda beach was flooded.
