Candidates for office of chief prosecutor to be selected based on more rigorous criteria in Moldova
Chisinau, 13 April /MOLDPRES/ - The candidates for the position of chief prosecutor of the specialized prosecutor’s office will have to meet the necessary criteria of professional and managerial competence. The members of the parliament’s juridical commission for appointments and immunities today approved the report for the second reading of a draft law on the matter.
The document’s goal is to clear up several procedures of pre-selection and selection of candidates for the office of prosecutor of specialized prosecutor’s offices, in order to ensure more transparent procedures. At the same time, while elaborating the draft, decision-makers took into account the opinions and recommendations by the International Monetary Fund.
Also, legislative amendments were proposed, which explicitly establish that the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) will select the candidate for the position of chief prosecutor of the specialized prosecutor’s office who passed the eligibility test at the pre-selection stage.
The document also suggests that the phase of pre-selection of candidates consists of two stages: primary verification of eligibility of the candidates who showed interest in participating in the contest, as well as the interviewing and evaluation of the candidates left.
