Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has congratulated the National Robotics Team of Moldova, which won one gold medal and two silver ones at the FIRST Global Challenge 2026 world robotics competition, held in the Republic of Korea. During the meeting at the government, the PM praised the talent, perseverance and creativity of the young people, emphasizing the importance of supporting the new generation of innovators.

“We have extraordinarily talented young people who can compete with the best in the world and develop solutions to real problems. It is important to provide them with opportunities to learn, experiment and turn their ideas into successful projects. We will continue investing in education, robotics and technology,” Prime Minister Tofan emphasized.

The members of the “Enigma” team from the village of Boscana, Criuleni district, presented the robot they used in the competition, as well as the innovative Ember Mesh project, which won a silver medal. The project involves using a network of autonomous sensors for the early detection of forest fires. The prime minister inquired about opportunities to develop the project and transform it into a solution that could be implemented on a large scale.

The discussions highlighted the role of robotics in developing critical thinking, creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurial skills. Vasile Tofan also thanked the mentors who guide the young people, noting that the performance of the team from Boscana demonstrates that talent exists in every locality across the country and that every child should have the opportunity to reach his/her full potential.

Moldova has participated in the FIRST Global Challenge since 2017, and following the result achieved in the Republic of Korea, the country’s medal tally has reached nine gold medals. The preparation and participation of the national team in the competition were supported by the Education and Research Ministry, with assistance from other public institutions, development partners, educational institutions and private companies.

Since 2014, about 60,000 children of Moldova have participated in robotics programs, which are currently held in around 270 schools, libraries and children’s and youth centers.
