Accelerating the implementation of projects carried out with the support of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Moldova, efficiently leveraging available resources and expanding the partnership between Moldova and the financial institution have been the main topics discussed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and EIB Vice President Karl Nehammer during a meeting.

The discussions focused on the progress of EIB-supported projects in the fields of transport infrastructure, energy, healthcare, education, agriculture, waste management and forest development, including roads’ modernization, the development of regional hospitals and the expansion of the Moldova’s Orchard programme.

A shared priority is accelerating projects’ implementation and making more efficient use of available funding. In this regard, the sides agreed to strengthen coordination at the technical level, in order to identify and eliminate bottlenecks. The PM highlighted the role of the new Moldova Project structure in improving the management of public investments.

New areas of cooperation were also addressed, particularly the development of modern irrigation systems, adapting agriculture to climate change and attracting private capital. The prime minister proposed exploring the possibility of creating an investment fund, in order to support agricultural projects and economic development.

Vasile Tofan thanked the EIB for its constant support for Moldova, emphasizing the partnership’s impact on the country’s modernization. For his part, EIB Vice President Karl Nehammer highlighted the important role of Moldova in the region and reaffirmed the institution’s openness to continuing to support the country’s development and its European path.

The European Investment Bank is one of Moldova’s important development partners, with cumulative financing of approximately 1.9 billion euros aimed at modernizing infrastructure, enhancing the competitiveness of the economy and improving citizens’ quality of life.
