COMMENTARY on Tiraspol event

The Government of the Republic of Moldova
gov.md

The event announced by Tiraspol represents an attempt to exploit citizens’ genuine problems for political purposes—a pattern we have seen before.

In a region where fundamental freedoms are suppressed and civic engagement is virtually impossible, it is clear that such events in no way reflect the freely expressed will of the citizens. The information available from the region fully confirms this.

The objectives are also clear: to create a false appearance of unity and support for the structures in Tiraspol, despite their complete lack of credibility. At the same time, there is an attempt to promote the narrative of alleged economic pressure exerted by Chișinău and to fuel messages of hatred, while externally creating the perception that the Republic of Moldova is facing instability and is unable to manage the situation in the Transnistrian region. In reality, the support provided to citizens on the left bank and the efforts to bring the two banks closer together demonstrate the commitment of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova to identifying peaceful solutions based on dialogue, cooperation, and respect for people’s rights.

It is only natural for the people of the region to have the same expectations and aspirations as citizens on the right bank: to benefit from social protection, access to quality education and healthcare services, decent incomes, and efficient public services. These are the things that unite us, regardless of which bank of the Dniester we live on.

We also understand the difficulties faced by citizens, and the appropriate response to them is represented by the reintegration policies and convergence projects promoted by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, which seek to bring about concrete positive changes for communities on both banks of the Dniester.

In such situations, it is important to remain calm, to assess matters with clarity and sound judgment, and not to allow ourselves to be influenced by provocations or manipulation. Daily life must continue its normal course, while care for our homes, families, and loved ones must remain a constant priority.

We will continue to focus on our work, address the problems faced by citizens, and contribute to bringing the two banks of the Dniester closer together.
