Chisinau city hall launches local anticorruption plan

Chisinau, 30 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau general mayor,  Ion Ceban, has launched an anticorruption plan, through which the Moldovan capital’s city hall is set to become the most transparent public institution from Moldova.  

At a news conference, Ion Ceban today presented the main directions of fight against corruption, due to be implemented by the Chisinau local administration. It is about the transparentizing of the public procurements, citizens’ involvement in taking decisions through surveys on site and online, as well as consulting the civil society as to the procedures of public acquisitions.   

The mayor noted that the measures against corruption had been motivated by the fact that earlier there were more findings of experts on the high degree of corruption at the institution. ‘’Till my election to office, the Chisinau city hall was regarded as the most corrupt institution from Moldova. These are the findings about the actions or inactions which were during years, as well as from the perspective of international experts. We are set to become a transparent institution and with lower risks as concerns the corruption,’’ the official said.   

At the same time, Ion Ceban stressed that, for the first time ever for the Chisinau municipality, all grounds and rooms meant for commercialization are put for sale through public tenders; thus, the risk of inequalities is reduced. ‘’Following tenders, the city hall collects hundreds of millions of lei and these actions are made with the involvement of the media and the people interested. No land was given illegally. The public procurements are made based on electronic tenders. The great majority of them can be seen on the city hall’s specialized websites,’’ Ceban noted.     

The main provisions of the local plan on fight against corruption in the Chisinau municipality regards the strengthening of the institutional integrity; optimization of the operational processes; ensuring the transparency and prevention of corruption in the process of planning, carrying out and monitoring of public procurements; improving the quality of the public services and diminution of the corruption factors.
