The government today approved a new Regulation on the procedure for acquiring and losing Moldovan citizenship, aiming to enhance transparency and clarity of the process for applicants.
Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin has said that the new regulation established clear rules for getting or reacquiring citizenship, as well as for renouncing it.
“Procedures are becoming more transparent and safer. Applications are submitted in person without intermediaries, documents are carefully verified and authorities can communicate directly with the applicant, if necessary. Our goal is to make the procedure clearer, safer and easier to understand for everyone,” the minister affirmed.
Daniella Misail-Nichitin noted that implementing the regulation would generate more benefits for applicants, such as extending the examination period and unifying the citizenship acquisition procedures by recognition for all categories of applicants, regardless of the reason for application; clear separation of procedures for minors and adults who acquire citizenship by recognition, in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; establishing the condition of knowledge of the Romanian language and the Constitution for all grounds of acquiring the citizenship and defining the categories of persons who will be exempt from this condition.
