Moldova's General Police Inspectorate initiates search warrant for Dmitri Constantinov, sentenced to 12 years in prison

The General Inspectorate of Police (IGP) has initiated a search warrant for Dmitri Constantinov, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison today. He is to be located, detained, and presented to the law-enforcement bodies.

Dmitri Constantinov, the former president of the People's Assembly (local legislative body) of Gagauzia, was sentenced to serve time in a closed-type penitentiary. In addition to the prison sentence, the court banned him from holding certain positions for five years and ordered him to pay damages worth 46 million lei.

According to the investigation, between 2017-2020, while serving as the director of a commercial company in Comrat, Dmitri Constantinov allegedly acted with others, in order to authorize unjustified fund transfers to a company where his son was active.

Prosecutors claim that fictitious contracts were concluded, by which the company managed by Dmitri Constantinov was brought to a state of insolvency, with the estimated damage exceeding 46 million lei.

On November 14, 2025, Dmitri Constantinov announced his resignation from the position of president of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia. He said that the decision was a personal one and was made over health problems.
