Romania condemns incident in Palanca area

Romania strongly condemns the incident that occurred this morning in the area of Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe border crossing, in which a Border Police officer was lightly injured. The statement was made by Romania’s ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, who reaffirmed Bucharest’s support for the Republic of Moldova in the face of threats generated by the war in Ukraine.

“We strongly condemn the serious incident that occurred today in the Palanca area, in which a person was injured amid the Russian Federation’s attacks against Ukraine. It comes after several drone incidents recorded in recent days that have affected the airspace and security of the Republic of Moldova,” Cristian-Leon Țurcanu said.

According to the ambassador, the incident demonstrates the consequences of the war for the security of the Republic of Moldova and regional stability.

“It is yet another clear example of the direct consequences that Russia’s war of aggression has for the security of the Republic of Moldova and regional stability. Such incidents once again demonstrate the risks this war creates beyond the territory of Ukraine,” the ambassador noted.

Cristian-Leon Țurcanu said that Romania will continue to support the Republic of Moldova, including in strengthening its security and resilience.

“We stand with the Republic of Moldova, its authorities and its citizens in the face of these challenges. Romania is and will remain alongside the Republic of Moldova, with solidarity and concrete support, including for strengthening its security and resilience. We will continue to support the Republic of Moldova in the face of threats generated by the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” the ambassador added.

A projectile fell this morning in the area of the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe border crossing. The object ricocheted and struck a scheduled bus that was stationary near the barrier. As a result of the incident, a Border Police officer was lightly injured.
