Travel alert for Greece! Increased wildfire risk

Citizens of Moldova who are in, transiting through, or intending to travel to Greece are warned to exercise increased caution, in the context of a high risk of wildfires starting from July 30. The warning was issued by Embassy of Moldova in Athens, based on information provided by the Greek authorities.

According to the diplomatic mission, the Greek Ministry for Civil Protection and Climate Crises has issued a warning regarding the increased danger of fires for more regions of the country, including Attica, the Peloponnese (Corinth, Argolis, Arcadia, Laconia and the island of Kythira), Central Greece (Boeotia, Phthiotis, Phocis, the islands of Evia and Skyros), the islands in the northern Aegean Sea (Lesvos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria), as well as the Cyclades and Crete.

The Embassy recommends that Moldovan citizens avoid traveling to areas affected by fires and strictly follow the instructions of the Greek authorities, including any evacuation orders issued through the 112 alert system.

Citizens are also urged to follow official information on the evolution of the fires and the map of affected areas, published by the Greek Ministry for Civil Protection and Climate Crises. In the event of a fire outbreak, the Greek authorities request that the Fire Service be called immediately at 199.

In situations requiring consular assistance, citizens of Moldova can contact the Embassy of Moldova in Greece at the phone number (+30) 210 699 03 72, the emergency phone number (+30) 698 470 2421, or by email at atena@mfa.gov.md  and consulat.atena@mfa.gov.md.

Greece is facing wildfires fueled by high temperatures, drought and strong winds.
