President congratulates Gagauzia residents on Hederlez holiday

President Maia Sandu sent a congratulatory message to all Gagauz fellow citizens who today are celebrating one of the most important holidays of the community – Hederlez.

The official emphasized that this day reminds us how important are the roots, the community, and the values we share.

“I extend my warm wishes to all Gagauz people on the occasion of Hederlez, a holiday of hope and renewal – and a true celebration of the most beautiful traditions of Gagauzia. May the spirit of Hederlez inspire us to remain close to one another and to look ahead with hope. On this beautiful spring holiday, I wish you health, abundance, peace, and unity,” said Maia Sandu.

The inhabitants of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia celebrate Hederlez on May 6, marked every year on the day when Old-Style Orthodox Christians commemorate Saint George. According to tradition, after Hederlez spring fully takes hold, and field work becomes increasingly intense and productive.
