Five people face up to six years in prison for electoral corruption in Moldova
Five individuals will stand trial for corrupting voters in Donduseni. The Drochia Prosecutor's Office announced the conclusion of the criminal investigation and the sending to court of a criminal case concerning voters’ corruption.
According to the indictment, on September 19, 2024, in the town of Donduseni, participants in a meeting organized by supporters of a political bloc attended by about 250 people, psychological manipulation ways were allegedly used, and packages containing food items printed with a political party's symbol were distributed, in order to influence the vote at the 2024 national referendum.
To ensure potential financial penalties, the defendants’ real estate - agricultural land, an apartment, and a residential house with a cadastral value of over 200,000 lei - have been seized by law-enforcers.
If found guilty, the five persons face prison sentences from two to six years and fines ranging between 37,500 and 57,500 lei, as well as the prohibition from holding offices or getting involved in certain activities for up to five years.
