Chişinău, 2 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- This year, employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations /IGSU/ managed to save 410 people, including 235 children, following emergency situations. IGSU head Alexandru Oprea made the statement today.

The volume of missions carried out by IGSU employees continues to increase in the last 10 years. The trend is generated by the gradual increase in operational capacity and the expansion of the spectrum of interventions, as well as climate change, especially the burning of dry vegetation. "This year, firefighters have already completed 9,613 missions to extinguish dry vegetation outbreaks, which destroyed 54,580 ha of land," said Oprea.

Oprea said that since 24 February the IGSU faced another challenge - managing the consequences of the war in Ukraine. "From its first day until now, ISGU employees, along with colleagues from MAI, are on the front line, providing the necessary support. In record time, the institution's staff managed to set up temporary centers in three locations.

The official said that since the beginning of this year, more than 40 batches of assistance have been handled by the IGSU. To carry out the missions assigned by the Government, IGSU organized the formation of two batches of humanitarian aid granted by the Government of the Republic of Moldova with their transportation to Ukraine.

Alexandru Oprea also announced that in the first half of the year the grant agreement was signed with the EU for the implementation of the project to create two dispatch centers - one in the municipality of Bălți, and the other in the city of Iaşi, Romania. The amount of the grant for the Republic of Moldova, which is about one million euros, is to be used for the construction and operationalization of the Northern Integrated Dispatch, which will serve the municipality of Balti and 11 other districts in the northern part of the country.
