Judge Veaceslav Cernalev heard by Commission for Evaluation of Judges
Members of the Commission for the Evaluation of Judges today heard Judge Veaceslav Cernalev of the Chisinau Court, a member of the panels specialized in examining corruption cases. The hearing focused on more aspects related to the judge’s financial integrity.
During the public part of the hearing, the panel members requested explanations regarding the cash that the judge declared he had accumulated before the beginning of the evaluation period, including the origin of these funds.
They also discussed the discrepancies identified between available income and accumulated wealth in 2014–2018 and 2020, in order to clarify whether these could show the existence of unjustified wealth.
The panel requested explanations regarding a loan allegedly taken out by the judge for the benefit of his parents, as well as certain loans allegedly taken out by his wife for the benefit of her brother. The judge also answered questions regarding alleged donations received from his sister.
At the judge’s request, these matters were discussed in a closed session. The panel granted the request, in order to protect the privacy of the persons concerned.
Following the hearing, the panel will adopt the evaluation report, which will include the established facts and the evaluation conclusion. The report is to be adopted within no more than 30 days after the date of the hearing.
