MMPS nominates winners of National Award for Seniors

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection (MMPS) has announced eight winners of the National Award for Seniors 2025. A total of 36 applications were submitted for the competition.

After reviewing the participants' applications, the evaluation committee decided to award the title and a monetary prize to candidates who demonstrated outstanding achievements and performances in various fields.

Thus, the winners of the competition are: Zinaida Izbaș (71 years old) – journalist, radio editor and presenter; Renata Verejanu (78 years old) – poet, prose writer, and essayist; Ecaterina Doicov (81 years old) – consultant and trainer; Maria Revenco (68 years old) – radio and television journalist; Gheorghe Colțun (74 years old) – university professor, PhD in philology and poet; Victor Pelin (75 years old) – craftsman in artistic woodwork; Iurie Cujba (78 years old) – history teacher and museographer; Tatiana Melnic (84 years old) – educator at the Placement and Rehabilitation Center for Young Children in Chișinău.

Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu emphasized that this competition is dedicated to appreciating the outstanding performances of elderly people, who have actively contributed to community development.

"The government firmly commits to providing older persons with a decent living, healthy and active aging. We have three main objectives: to ensure that we offer citizens a decent pension, provide high-level social assistance, and make sure our citizens age actively," remarked Alexei Buzu.

The event is held annually on International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on 1 October in order to promote active aging, social involvement, and the appreciation of seniors' outstanding performances.

According to the National Statistics Bureau, more than 421,000 people over the age of 65 live in the Republic of Moldova.
