DOC // Ukraine sanctioned 11 politicians and activists from Moldova for promoting 'pro-Russian narratives and justifying Russian aggression'

Ukraine has imposed sanctions on 11 politicians and activists from the Republic of Moldova for "promoting pro-Russian narratives." President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed three decrees applying sanctions against individuals and entities involved in human rights violations in temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as against "pro-Russian propagandists and figures" in Moldova.

The documents implement the decisions of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council. According to them, the sanctioned individuals are said to promote "pro-Russian narratives and justify the aggression of the Russian Federation."

"Among them are Vasile Bolea, who popularizes Russian foreign policy in the media, and Dmitrii Konstantinov, President of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia, who openly repeats Russian propagandistic speeches. This decision sends an important signal of support to the Moldovan people on the path towards European integration," a press release of the Ukrainian Presidency reads.

Other sanctioned individuals include: Evghenia Guțul, Ion Mahu, Natalia Parasca, Victor Petrov, Constantin Starîș, Victoria Furtuna, Bogdan Țîrdea, Iurie Ciofu and Igor Șornikov.

The sanctions involve restrictions on financial operations conducted on Ukrainian territory, asset blocking, prohibition of capital removal from Ukraine, withdrawal of Ukrainian state honors, and several public actions. Some measures have been imposed for a period of 10 years, while others are for an indefinite period.

The measures are coordinated with international partners and aim to "block Russian resources, protect human rights in occupied territories, and counteract Russian propaganda."
