Reshuffle at IGSU

Government of the Republic of Moldova has dismissed Alexandru Oprea from director-general of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) within the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) and appointed Aurel Baciu. The decision was approved at today's cabinet meeting.

Colonel Alexandru Oprea was released from his position upon his own request, as of 17 September. Minister of Internal Affairs Daniela Misail-Nichitin highlighted her contribution to developing and strengthening the national civil protection system.

“Two years ago, the Republic of Moldova became a full member of the European Union's civil protection mechanism, marking a historic moment for the national civil protection system. This allowed access to international assistance in emergencies, interoperability with European structures, as well as recognition of the Republic of Moldova as a trusted partner in the field of civil protection. These achievements were also possible thanks to the professionalism and dedication of IGSU and Colonel Alexandru Oprea,” said the minister.

At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers approved Aurel Baciu's appointment as director-general of IGSU as of 18 September for a term of five years. The minister noted that Baciu has experience in internal affairs and emphasized his main responsibilities in the new role:

“Mr. Baciu will accelerate the functional capabilities of interoperability and operational management in the field of civil protection and emergency management,” added Daniela Misail-Nichitin.

Cabinet meeting included over 20 bills and resolutions on the agenda.
