VIDEO // EU Ambassador's holiday message
The year 2025 was a 'very good' year for the Republic of Moldova, marked by remarkable progress on the path to European integration, European Union Ambassador to Chisinau Iwona Piórko said in a message addressed to the citizens on the eve of the holidays.
'Dear friends, the year 2025 was a very good year for the Republic of Moldova. I had the occasion to witness just the past four months, but they have been extraordinary months. Through the election results, you have demonstrated to the entire world that you are a courageous nation, unafraid and clearly knowing where you are heading: towards the European Union. And we will welcome you there with open arms,' affirmed the European diplomat.
The Ambassador emphasized that, over the past year, the Republic of Moldova has achieved unprecedented progress in its relationship with the European Union.
'You have made remarkable progress. The EU legislation screening process was the fastest in history. We organized, for the first time, the European Union–Republic of Moldova Summit, right here in Chisinau. At the same time, the European Union adopted an unprecedented financial package for your country – 1.9 billion euros – which will permanently transform the Republic of Moldova,' stated Iwona Piórko.
According to the Ambassador, citizens are already benefiting from tangible advantages of the European path.
'Joining SEPA is one of them. I know that many of you have families living in EU member states, and now you can send money much more cheaply thanks to this system,' she said.
In the same context, the diplomat announced new facilities that will come into effect at the beginning of the next year.
'From January 1st, you will also benefit from free roaming, you will be able to talk without additional costs. Many other benefits will become reality over time,' added the EU ambassador.
Iwona Piórko was keen to thank the citizens for their openness and support in the first months of her mandate.
'After four unforgettable months, I want to thank each one of you, many of whom I have met in different corners of the country: at volunteer firefighter festivals, in homes for the elderly, in schools, and many other places. I promise that I will also reach those corners I have not yet visited and that I will meet as many of you as possible,' said the diplomat.
In her holiday message, the European Union Ambassador conveyed a special thought to families.
'On the eve of the holidays, I wish you what is most important: to reunite with your families, with those who live abroad and come home for a visit or whom you may visit. Cherish these moments! We are all the same – we love our families above all else. And we, the European Union, wish you and your families all the best, for this country to develop even more in the coming year. Happy New Year!' concluded Iwona Piórko.
