Moldova's Nicolae Testemitanu Medical University gets international accreditation for another five years
The Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) of Moldova has reaffirmed its status as an internationally accredited institution, according to the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The University has recently received the international institutional accreditation certificate for a period of five years, issued by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR).
According to the evaluation report, the external committee identified more strengths in the work of USMF Nicolae Testemitanu, including: the existence of an internal legislative framework that regulates policies and procedures for assessing academic performance at all levels of study; systematic surveying of students on their satisfaction with the teaching-learning-assessment process, thus contributing to the continuous improvement of the quality of the teaching process; implementation of a University Management Information System, which allows a rigorous evaluation of the validity of testing tasks and ensures transparency in communicating results to students; a sense of institutional belonging and the dedication of the administrative team, teaching staff and the entire university personnel; an effective human resource development policy aimed at motivating and encouraging the teaching staff for continuous improvement in the fields of education and research; a significant number of scientific and teaching staff holding doctoral and postdoctoral degrees, with extensive teaching experience; a high satisfaction rate among interviewed university staff; a well-grounded quality assurance policy which clearly shows the connection between research, teaching, and learning, taking into account the national and institutional specifics.
The committee of external experts also made recommendations, in order to improve the quality of education in the fields of medicine and pharmacy: developing university infrastructure and technical and material base, including the creation of a university hospital by the academic year 2029-2030; implementing the FORCE_Farm sub-project to strengthen the capacities of the Drug Development Center and the scientific and practical center in the field of medicinal plants; creating a learning and research center.
USMF Rector Emil Ceban appreciated the activity of the external committee and emphasized the considerable effort of the entire academic community in achieving these results. He highlighted that the University USMF 'Nicolae Testemitanu stood out through a professional, responsible and dedicated team, determined and oriented towards success.
‘’In the long run, several research projects are to be implemented, the extension of CUSIM and the construction of a new teaching block. We want to create a university hospital – an urgent need that will add value to the University, the entire medical system and the people of the country. We will take into account the committee's observations and recommendations, examine them thoroughly and implement them,’’ pointed out Rector Ceban.
USMF Nicolae Testemitanu for the first time got international institutional accreditation in June 2019.
