The southern Leova District in the past four years has benefited from massive investments in infrastructure, health, education and public services, thanks to government programmes and funds attracted by the government. Prime Minister Dorin Recean today made statements to this effect, on a working visit to the territory.

According to the PM, among the most important projects carried out, there is the construction of the Leova–Bumbata bridge, the first new bridge across the Prut since Moldova’s independence, which provides a direct connection to Romania. At the same time, local and district roads have been rehabilitated, including the Leova–Leuseni route and the access road to the village of Filipeni, where over 8 million lei was invested.

In the health sector, approximately 17 million lei was allocated for endowing the Leova District Hospital with modern equipment, purchasing two ambulances and opening four pharmacies in villages through the Pharmacy in Your Village programme.

Moreover, through the European Village programme, 29 projects have been implemented, and another 17 are in progress. They include the construction of 10 km of water networks and 6 km of sewage systems, completion of two water towers, a treatment plant, a pumping station and two sewage treatment stations. Also, water mains are being developed to connect more villages in the region.

At the same time, the educational sector has benefited from investments of over 11 million lei. The Mihai Eminescu Theoretical Lyceum from Leova is being transformed into a Model School, and a new sanitary block is being constructed at Mihai Viteazul Lyceum from Tomai. In parallel, playgrounds, sports fields, and parks have been arranged for communities.

Additionally, dozens of households have been supported through energy efficiency projects, setting of photovoltaic panels and biomass boilers, as well as providing vouchers for modern appliances.
