Moldovan president conveys congratulatory message on marking Birth of God holiday
Chisinau, 7 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today conveyed a congratulatory message to the citizens on the marking of the Birth of God holiday.
The official urged the families to preserve the light of this holiday.
„Merry and blessed Christmas to everybody! On these holy days, we should be happy with the warmth of the family, should be better with each other and preserve the light of this holiday in the heart,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The old-style Orthodox Christians today celebrate the Birth of God (Christmas), which is one of the Twelve Great Feasts of the year, as it is preceded by a 40-day Christmas Fast. Liturgies are officiated in the churches from all over Moldova on this occasion.
On Christmas in the morning, believers go the holy Liturgy and then, at noon, families convene at the traditional holiday dinner. The Birth of God, as a rule, is a family holiday, focused on prayer, spirituality and the happiness of the Birth of the Savior.
The authorities ruled to declare 7 and 8 January official holidays, in order to allow everybody to celebrate in family.
