Delegation of Parliamentary Friendship Group with Turkmenistan of Parliament of the Republic of Moldova pays working visit to Ashgabat

Chisinau, 15 September 2026 - A delegation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Turkmenistan of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is paying a working visit to Ashgabat on 13-17 September 2026, at the invitation of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

The delegation comprises the Chair of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Turkmenistan, Petru Burduja, and members of the group, MPs Igor Dodon and Grigorii Uzun.

The visit is considered an important milestone in the development of Moldovan-Turkmen interparliamentary relations, being the first visit at the level of parliamentary friendship groups since diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Turkmenistan.

The visit's agenda includes meetings with the Chairperson of Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Chair and members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Moldova, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, and the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting with Chairperson of Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova, the prospects for developing interparliamentary relations between the Republic of Moldova and Turkmenistan were discussed. The parties emphasized that interparliamentary dialogue has become an important component of the cooperative relations between the two countries, while the parliamentary friendship groups established on the basis of bilateral relations provide additional opportunities for exchanging experience in the legislative field.

In this context, the Moldovan side expressed its interest in developing concrete areas of cooperation, including in the commercial and economic, investment, agricultural, energy, tourism and humanitarian fields, as well as in exchanging experience in the legislative field.

Particular attention is being paid to identifying opportunities for deepening commercial, economic and investment relations, including the expansion of imports of mineral fertilizers, as well as exploring new possibilities for cooperation in the energy and agricultural sectors.

The delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova also expressed its openness to developing social projects with a direct impact on communities, appreciating Turkmenistan's contribution to the implementation of such projects in the Republic of Moldova. In this context, the construction of a 160-place kindergarten in the village of Cismichioi, inaugurated in 2017, was mentioned.
