
Moldovan president decrees mourning day for 24 June, to pay last respects to departed writer Spiridon Vangheli
Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ - The day of 24 June, when the funerals of writer Spiridon Vangheli will take place, will be decreed as national mourning day, as a token of grief and to pay a homage to the departed writer Spiridon Vangheli. President Maia Sandu has made an announcement to this effect.
„Spiridon Vangheli, the writer who during his entire life made great literature for children, left the Blue Hovel of childhood and passed away. He remained the father of Guguta; yet, we will always have with us Guguta and the other heroes created by the master, who brought us to the universal literature. Guguta was more than a literary personage. We try to find again the kindness of the world of Guguta during all our life,’’ the head of state said.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean also came up with messages of condolences.
„Farewell, Spiridon Vangheli. Thank you for receiving all of us under the Hat of Guguta, where we discovered a world where the peace, safety and good understanding between people reigns. A world seen by eyes of a child is the nicest world of all worlds possible. Condolences to the family and all those who knew him, read and admired the work of the beloved writer for children, Spiridon Vangheli,’’ Igor Grosu said.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that Spiridon Vangheli had taught us what the friendship, courage and innocence of childhood was. ‘’Let as say farewell to Spiridon Vangheli. The creator of the immortal Deeds of Guguta. Guguta will also remain in our memory, with his charmed hat; this is how we will remember Spiridon Vangheli and his magic world which he created. Condolences to the relatives and all those who knew and loved him! Let us perpetuate his memory through the next generations of children,’’ Dorin Recean said in his message.
Writer Spiridon Vangheli died at the age of 92 years today. The departed writer enjoyed a special popularity among the readers, especially of children and their parents. Vangheli was prose writer, poet, translator and editor, laureate of the State Prize, holder of the Order of the Republic.
Spiridon Vangheli was awarded the Andersen International Honorary Diploma, the Mihai Eminescu medal, the Order of the Republic, the State Prize of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic, the Ion Creanga Prize of the Romanian Academy, the title of Master in Art and the one of People’s Writer.
Spiridon Vangheli was born in the Grinauti village, Balti county, presently Rascani district, on 14 June 1932.
