Moldovan prosecutors make record capture of heroin
Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS) today confirmed the capturing of a record quantity of heroin, 235 kg.
According to information unveiled by prosecutors, a Turkish citizen set up a firm, dealing with the import of construction materials from Iran and Russia. During eight months, he brought heroin in small qualities to Moldova, which he stocked.
The heroin was found in a warehouse, while the change of the location of the 235 kg was tried to be made. The heroin was brought to Moldova through TIR vehicles coming from Ukraine.
The action was made with the support of the customs bodies of Ukraine, being a joint action of the National Investigation Inspectorate, PCCOCS and the Customs service.
The heroin was to leave Moldova with the destination the European Union. Presently, the drugs are preserved by the prosecution body and will be subsequently destroyed after a final court ruling issued.
