National Award for Seniors: 15 people winners in 2026 edition

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has nominated 15 winners of the 2026 edition of the National Award for Seniors, “Active Life at Any Age.” A total of 29 applications were submitted for the competition, and the winners will receive the title of Laureate and a cash prize.

This year’s laureates include teachers, researchers, farmers, musicians, volunteers, and community activists who continue to be involved in their fields of activity and in the life of their communities.

Teodora-Rodica Birsan, 74, a teacher and founder of the “From Traditions to Contemporary Times” Community Museum of History and Ethnography in Sărătenii Vechi, was recognized for promoting local heritage and passing traditional crafts on to young people.

Researcher Victor Gorban, 75, is also among the laureates. He has more than five decades of experience in the biological protection of plants and is the author and co-author of 75 publications and 28 patents.

Musician Sergiu Romandaș, 76, was named a laureate for his work promoting traditional music. 

Researcher Mihail Nazarov, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, aged 80, is also on the list of winners. He works at the Institute of Applied Physics of Moldova State University, publishes scientific papers, supervises PhD students, and has written more than 50 popular science and travel books.

Elena Sajina, Margareta Cheptănari, Alexandra Postovan, Mihail Rapcea, and Constantin Moraru are also among the laureates. They were recognized for their work in civil society, the promotion of traditional products, community involvement, research and training in agriculture, the education of specialists in agricultural engineering, and the promotion of traditional wrestling.

The award was also given to Nicolae Uncuță and Emilia Surlaru for their involvement in preserving historical memory, education, and cultural activities, as well as to Fevronia Șelaru for her educational and volunteer activities and her support for vulnerable people.

The list of laureates also includes physics teacher Vasilii Stoianov, founder and first director of Vasil Levski Bulgarian Theoretical High School; geography teacher Zinovia Neicovcena, with 53 years of experience in education; and Vasile Gîdilică, a volunteer and graduate of the University of the Third Age who is involved in educational and community activities.

The competition is organized annually on International Day of Older Persons. The initiative aims to promote active ageing, encourage older people’s participation in social life, and recognize their achievements in various fields.
