Moldovan police to be reorganized
Moldovan police will be reorganized into a new administrative format by creating three regional police divisions – North, Center and South – and two territorial divisions: one for the municipality of Chișinău and another for Gagauzia.
A draft law in this regard was reviewed today by the commission for national security, defense and public order.
According to the authors, the main objective of the reform is to reduce administrative costs, optimize functional management, and improve the quality of services provided to citizens. One of the key measures involves reducing the patrol response time by at least 15 minutes, due to the implementation of the 'nearest patrol' principle, regardless of the district or region where the incident occurs.
The project sees a clear delineation of responsibilities between the Police and the General Inspectorate of Carabineers. While police officers will be responsible for maintaining public order and security, the carabineers will act on request to ensure and restore it.
The legislative initiative was drafted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
