Schools of Moldova to organize topic-related decades for shaping national, universal values among pupils

All general education institutions of Moldova starting from the current academic year will conduct six topic-related decades dedicated to promoting national, intercultural and universal values, according to a decision approved by the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC).

According to MEC, a topic-related decade is an interval of at least ten study days, during which both scheduled lessons and extracurricular and extra-school activities will take place. Three decades will be mandatory—Education for National Values in September, Memory and Gratitude in March, and General Human Values in May. Another three decades will be selected by schools from a list proposed by the MEC, which includes such subjects as online safety, intercultural education, career orientation, STEAM, or democratic citizenship and human rights.

The first decade, titled We are All Moldova, takes place in September and aims to cultivate respect for the state's symbols and responsibility towards national values. According to the MEC, pupils will participate in flag-raising ceremonies, national anthem singing, moments of silence in memory of heroes who died for independence, debates, community projects, visits to public institutions and meetings with cultural personalities and veterans.

To support the implementation of the programme, the Ministry of Education and Research organizes online training workshops for teaching and management staff. They take place during September 8–12, 2025, differentiated by study cycles: primary, middle and high school.

By introducing topic-related decades, the MEC aims to develop the competencies provided by the National Curriculum and involve students in activities that strengthen national identity, civic responsibility and respect for cultural diversity.
