Russian Shahed drone allegedly flew over northern region of country

A Russian Shahed drone allegedly flew over the northern region of the country last night. Ukrainian border guards reported detecting it near the locality of Horodiște, Dondușeni district, and its disappearance between Cupcini and Edineț. The Ministry of Defense has not yet confirmed the airspace incursion.

According to the Border Police, under the information, the area through which the drone might have passed is being checked, but no objects posing risks to citizens' safety have been identified so far.

"Last night, patrols near the border with Ukraine reported sounds specific to drone flights and explosions on Ukrainian territory. The Border Police remains in contact with national institutions and international partners, continuing to ensure the surveillance and security of the state border and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova," stated the border authority.

Regarding the case, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi highlighted that, at present, the data are being verified by the authorities, who are working with counterparts in Ukraine and Romania.

"The fact is not yet confirmed. We were alerted during the night. It is additional clear evidence that Russia defies the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova, and we must invest in defense systems to ensure the security of our citizens," said Anatolie Nosatîi.

He mentioned that the authorities in Chișinău are cooperating with security institutions in Ukraine and Romania to monitor the region's airspace.

"We have very good cooperation with colleagues from Ukraine and Romania. It is a joint effort to monitor the airspace and ensure the security of citizens," Anatolie Nosatîi affirmed.

The Defense Minister added that some routes of drones used in Russian attacks pass very close to the border of the Republic of Moldova, creating additional risks for the country's security.

"With the help of the Government and partners, we are investing in the army, equipping it with the necessary equipment for airspace monitoring and defense, based on the new law that has been approved. However, this process takes time and requires significant resources," the official explained.

In the Ukrainian press, a map has appeared indicating possible trajectories of Russian drones used in air attacks against targets in the neighboring country. The image shows a path that crosses the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
