Moldovan PM has dialogue with European Commissioner for Enlargement

The European Union acknowledges significant progress made by the government of Moldova in the field of reforms and announces the disbursement of 18.9 million euros by the European Commission through the Mechanism for Reform and Economic Growth. The funds will be allocated to the budget for implementing activities in the Growth Plan.

According to Prime Minister Dorin Recean, the visit of the high-ranking European official reconfirms the trustful partnership between Moldova and the European Union.

"The progress made by Moldova is seen and appreciated in the EU, which allows us to move quickly in the accession process," PM Dorin Recean said.

The 18.9 million euros is added to the pre-financing of 270 million euros already provided this year. Moldova is expected to benefit from up to 1.9 billion euros in grants and loans on favorable terms during 2025-2027.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos appreciated the quick advancement of Moldova on the path to European integration.

"Moldova conveys a strong signal regarding its commitment to implementing necessary reforms for economic growth and European integration. At the same time, we urge European investors to invest in Moldova - a country showing determination and making sustained efforts on the path to EU accession."

Among the important achievements in the Moldova-EU relationship, the European official highlighted at the news conference held with Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov: the elimination of roaming charges starting from January 1, 2026, the integration into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), as well as a new trade regime that gives more export opportunities for local producers.

Today, the European Union also made a call to the business environment to invest in Moldova, considering the significant progress made by the country in implementing reforms. At the same time, the two officials discussed, along with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitization, Doina Nistor, with a group of entrepreneurs the access of Moldovan companies and products to the European market.

"Moldova has much to be proud of: we have talented people, well-educated specialists and promising economic potential. We are ready to assert our place regionally and internationally. The Diaspora, local companies and international investors can find development opportunities in Moldova. Now, they also have this European framework of support to turn ideas into competitive and successful businesses at home," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the event.

Today, Prime Minister Recean and Commissioner Kos also visited the International Book Fair Bookfest, which opened in Chisinau on September 3. This is the eighth edition of the most important event dedicated to the Romanian language book in  Moldova, which brings together publishers, established authors and book lovers from both sides of the Prut River.

Officials spoke with visitors and representatives of participating publishers and also purchased books. The International Book Fair Bookfest Chisinau will remain open till September 7 and provides a vast programme of book launches, autograph sessions and debates with authors.

Commissioner Marta Kos is in Chisinau till September 5, this being her third visit to Moldova.
