Six people detained in smuggling case with cigarettes worth over 2.5 million lei
Chisinau, March 22 / MOLDPRES /- PCCOCS prosecutors and SIS officers detained six members of a cross-border organized criminal group, including three Border Police employees, in a case of cigarette smuggling worth more than 2.5 million lei.
According to the PCCOCS, the cigarettes were packed in about 285,000 packages and were transported to Romania, crossing the border near Ungheni, on January 2 and 3, 2018. After the cigarettes were delivered to Iasi, they were sold on the black market and the money was invested. in real estate and luxury cars.
In order to accumulate evidence, the law enforcement officers descended with 18 searches in Ungheni, including the Border Police sector in the locality, as well as in Hâncești. Regarding the investigations in Romania, they are carried out by the prosecutors of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism.
The six detainees will be questioned and charged.
