Technology - at heart of judicial process

Balti Court starting this week has the first fully functional e-Courtroom, made with the support of the Swedish Embassy in Chisinau.

According to Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, the innovative project brings technology to the heart of the judicial process, facilitating access to justice, enhancing the efficiency and transparency of court sessions.

The new courtroom is endowed with modern equipment that allow: audio and video recording of sessions; conducting hearings via videoconference; simultaneous translation and interpretation; online access to files and evidence for judges and participants, eliminating the need for paper documents; and space dedicated to media representatives.

The e-Courtroom project enables rapid and efficient process proceedings, including remote participation of the parties involved.

The justice minister noted that the initiative would be gradually extended to all courts of the country, in an effort to create a more modern and accessible judicial system for citizens.

"Courts need to be just a click away from beneficiaries. This is a decisive step towards an open, friendly and efficient justice," said the minister.

The project was carried out with the support of the Swedish Embassy and cooperation with the Balti Legal Clinic. Representatives from Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and Agency for Digitalization in Justice and Court Administration (ADJAJ) attended the inauguration. Balti Court is among the model courts of the country, modernized within the Model Courts project, implemented with USAID's support.
