Ungheni hospital to receive ophthalmic surgical microscope with Japan’s support
Ungheni hospital will be equipped with a modern ophthalmic surgical microscope, thanks to a grant of over 65,000 US dollars provided by the Government of Japan. The grant contract was signed today by the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, Takeuchi Kazuyuki, and the director of the medical institution, Elvira Stati.
The funding is provided through the Grant Assistance for Human Security Projects (Kusanone).
“The equipment will allow ophthalmologists to perform high-precision surgical interventions, under safer conditions and at high medical standards. Thus, patients from Ungheni and from localities in the region will be able to benefit from modern ophthalmic services closer to home. The new project in Ungheni will contribute to the modernization of medical services and to increasing the population’s access to quality ophthalmic interventions,” the Japanese diplomatic mission in Chisinau explains.
Ambassador Takeuchi Kazuyuki praised the initiative of Ungheni hospital and the work of the medical staff, who continue to provide surgical services to the local population despite limited resources.
The Japanese diplomat emphasized that Japan remains a long-term partner of the Republic of Moldova in the field of health and aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
Kusanone Program has been implemented in the Republic of Moldova since 2008. To date, the Government of Japan has provided grants totaling 8 million US dollars for 97 projects in the fields of health, education, and public utilities.
