The Ministry of Environment announces that in 2026, the large water evacuation system of Ghidighici reservoir dam will be rehabilitated, an investment meant to enhance the safety of Chișinău municipality against the risk of floods.
According to Minister of Environment Gheorghe Hajder, the works aim to repair existing cracks and rehabilitate the spillway threshold, so that water evacuation can be carried out safely during periods of heavy rainfall or high flow rates.
The large water evacuation system of the Ghidighici dam was commissioned in 1962 and is currently in a deteriorated state. The Ghidighici Lake and its dam are declared national importance objectives, having both a protective role against floods and serving as a strategic water source.
The official points out that water protection and citizens' safety are government priorities, with investments in hydrotechnical infrastructure set to continue in the coming period.
