The parliament’s foreign policy commission has heard the report of Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) on the economic diplomacy goals of Moldova, presented by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi. Sixty-six honorary consuls also participated in the meeting.

According to the document, the main goals of economic diplomacy are attracting investments, increasing exports of domestic products and strengthening the image of Moldova as an attractive tourist destination. To this end, during January- September 2026, the MAE organized bilateral business forums and business visits and strengthened cooperation with development partners and international economic organizations.

This year, the MAE laid the foundations for a more efficient economic diplomacy system. A unified coordination mechanism was introduced, in order to clarify the responsibilities of institutions and eliminate overlaps; the framework governing the activities of trade and economic advisers was updated; and performance indicators were established to assess their work.

On the same period, the diplomatic missions of Moldova organized more than 30 economic promotion events in over 20 countries, focused particularly on promoting wines, agri-food products and cosmetics. Meetings between Moldovan companies and foreign partners and investors were facilitated, including through participation in trade fairs, forums and business missions.

Moldovan wine remained one of the country’s main promotional tools, through events and tastings organized in more countries, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Sweden, South Korea and the United States. Diplomatic missions also promoted tourism, culture and domestic products, including through cooperation with foreign journalists and content creators.

The MAE’s priorities for the end of 2026 and for 2027 include expanding economic contacts with markets from Africa, Latin America, Asia and Oceania, including by organizing forums and business missions, as well as launching the Economic Ambassadors Network of Moldova. The Ministry will continue to support domestic producers and exports, by facilitating access to new markets and reducing bottlenecks at the border. At the same time, Moldova will be promoted as a destination for investment, business and tourism, including through the Ambassador Wine of the Republic of Moldova” project.

Moldova has more than 90 honorary consuls—individuals who are not paid by the state, but represent the country’s interests in other states and contribute to the development of economic, trade, cultural and investment relations.
