Methods to improve the efficiency of ministries’ work, in order to enhance planning, cooperation and achieve better results for citizens were discussed today at a roundtable that brought together around 50 officials and EU experts. The event was organized within the European Union and Denmark-funded project “Moldova is Europe – Support for EU Integration”, in collaboration with the State Chancellery and OECD/SIGMA.

The discussions focused on the goal of ensuring a public administration that delivers real benefits to citizens both in the context of accession negotiations and in the future, when the Republic of Moldova becomes an EU member state. Recent findings from a comparative study carried out by OECD/SIGMA – conducted in nine EU candidate countries – as well as assessments from the EU project, show that ministries in the Republic of Moldova face several organizational challenges.

Deputy Secretary General of the Government Lilia Dabija emphasized that ministries represent the backbone of the central public administration and play a decisive role in translating government priorities into impactful public policies.

“Strengthening their institutional capacity is essential not only for modernizing public administration, but also for accelerating the European integration process. Through better-organized institutions, merit-based public management and more effective coordination, we can ensure better policies and higher-quality public services for citizens,” said Dabija.

Team Leader for Governance of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova Martina Spernbauer and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Denmark in Moldova Jasmin Sørensen said that they will continue to support public administration reform, which is essential for ensuring transparent governance and providing better services to citizens.

The discussion is part of ongoing efforts to build a modern, transparent and professional public administration – closer to citizens and aligned with EU practices.
