State university from administrative centre of south Moldova Gagauz autonomy to open more specialties
Chisinau, 26 November /MOLDPRES/ - The authorities of the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri plan to open more specialties at the State University from Comrat (USC), especially in the pedagogy field, according to local sources.
The head of the department for education at the autonomy’s local government, Natalia Cristeva, said that “the autonomy needs very much young teaching staff. We have analyzed the situation and, taking into account the fact that the universities from Moldova educate less teachers to teach in the Russian language, we negotiated with the Comrat University.”
„Thus, starting from the next year, all measures will be undertaken to re-establish at USC such specialties as mathematics, information technology, physics, biology, geography, etc.,” Natalia Cristeva told the website www.gagauzinfo.md.
Cristeva noted that it was also quite important “to motivate graduates to register at these specialties.”
„The main goal is to arouse the wish of our pupils to study at the Comrat University. Or, for this, we are in the process of elaborating more motivational programmes. For instance, only students studying at the necessary specialties will be able to receive the Gagauz authorities’ scholarship. We also think to provide them better living conditions in hostels, to back young teachers with allowances and facilities,” Cristeva added.
Three universities work in southern Moldova – in Cahul, Comrat and Taraclia. More than 1,600 students study at the university from UTA Gagauz-Yeri.
There is a deficit of about 100 teachers in the Gagauz autonomy. At the same time, one quarter of the teachers working are of the retirement age and another 15 per cent – on the brink of retirement.
In the 2018-2019 academic year, about 2,000 vacant positions of teachers were registered in Moldova’s education institutions.
