European Union Youth Orchestra to perform in Moldova for the first time on Europe Day

The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) will perform a concert for the first time in Moldova, at Mimi Castle on Europe Day, May 9, 2025, starting from 18:00. Conducted by Jakub Przybycień, the young European musicians will play works by composers Enescu, Beethoven and Bartók, offering the audience an exceptional evening.

The event is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute, with the support of Moldova’s Ministry of Culture and the Constantin Mimi Foundation. It marks a symbolic moment of European solidarity in a tense geopolitical context, reaffirming strong support for the European path of Moldova.

“Celebrating Europe Day through music, with the European Union Youth Orchestra, for the first time in Moldova, is more than a concert — it is a profound gesture of solidarity and trust in the European future of this country. In the sound of these young musicians, there is a clear message: we share the same values, dream together and belong to the same European cultural space, where art builds bridges and strengthens bonds,” said the head of the Romanian Cultural Institute, Liviu Jicman.

For his part, Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan emphasized European solidarity in the context of Moldova's integration process.

“The presence, for the first time, of the European Union Youth Orchestra in Moldova, right on Europe Day, is a compelling proof of European solidarity and strong support for the European path of Moldova. This extraordinary concert confirms, through the power of music, that we all are part of a common European cultural space, built on shared values, collaboration and hope,” Sergiu Prodan said.

Founded in 1976 by unanimous vote of the European Parliament, EUYO is the only orchestra that brings together musicians from all 27 European Union member states. Supported by the Creative Europe programme, EUYO was recognized as European Cultural Diplomat of the Year (2018) and European Cultural Brand of the Year (2020), becoming a true European cultural ambassador.
