The 2025 year marked significant progress in the culture sector, reflecting the authorities' commitment to developing the culture field and preserving national heritage. Contacted by MOLDPRES, Culture Minister Cristian Jardan presented the institution's top five achievements of the year, highlighting their impact on communities and public access to culture.

1. Cultural Voucher for Youth

The Cultural Voucher programme was among the year's most appreciated initiatives. Eighteen-year-old young people received a financial support of 1,000 lei meant for participating in cultural activities — theater shows, concerts, museum visits, or purchasing books. “The programme’s success sparked discussions to extend it to other age groups,” said minister Cristian Jardan.

2. “Access to Culture” Programme

This programme provided regional communities with shows, exhibitions, and cultural workshops aimed at enhancing public’s involvement and social cohesion. The initiative’s goal was to increase participation in cultural life outside the municipality of Chisinau.

3. Development of Cultural Infrastructure

In 2025, progress was made in rehabilitating Chisinau's Circus and other major cultural institutions stay in the ministry's focus, including the National Philharmonic, the “Universul” Cultural Center, the Mihai Eminescu National Theater and the Cahul Theater. For the latter, the authorities committed to completing the works by 2026, a milestone that would mark the construction of the first theater building in Moldova in the last 40 years.

4. Memory Culture

The Culture Ministry initiated projects dedicated to memory culture, including the initiative to create the Museum of Political Repressions. The future institution will bring to the forefront the historical sufferings affecting all ethnicities of Moldova and will contribute to consolidating collective memory and social unity.

5. Protection of Historical Heritage

Historical heritage was placed at the center of the ministry's policies, with work initiated to draft a new law on historical monuments and update their register, comprising over 1,800 objects. The goal is not just preserving buildings, but also restoring their cultural and community functionality.

At the same time, the Culture Ministry also made progress in media through press subsidy funds and supporting print publications. Simultaneously, a new media law is being developed, in collaboration with civil society and the guild of journalists, aiming to modernize the legislative framework in force since 1994.

For 2026, the Culture Ministry prioritizes expanding the Cultural Voucher, developing the “Access to Culture” programme in all regions, completing outstanding infrastructure projects, adopting the new media law, continuing the restoration of historical monuments and advancing memory culture projects, including realizing the Museum of Political Repressions. These objects aim to consolidate the cultural sector and generate sustainable benefits for society.

More details about the projects carried out, their benefits and the directions for the development of the cultural sector can be found in the interview given by Culture Minister Cristian Jardan, exclusively with MOLDPRES. The interview is published on Saturday, December 20.
