Parliament to begin second 2026 session on 1 September
Parliament will begin second ordinary session of the year on 1 September 2026, based on a decree signed by Speaker Igor Grosu.
According to the Parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Department, MPs are to be convened in a plenary session at the proposal of the Standing Bureau, after the draft agenda has been finalized.
Harmonizing national legislation with that of the European Union has been set as the priority of the session, according to the Parliament’s Legislative Program for 2026.
This summer, the Republic of Moldova opened two negotiation clusters with the European Union, Fundamental values and External relations. The other four clusters, which concern the internal market, inclusion, the green agenda and agriculture, are to be opened depending on the fulfilment of the necessary criteria and conditions.
According to the Parliament’s Regulations, the legislature meets in two ordinary sessions each year. The first begins in February and may not extend beyond the end of July, while the second starts in September and ends no later than the end of December.
In addition to regular sessions, Parliament may convene in extraordinary or special session at the request of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Speaker or at least one third of the MPs.
