The parliament building was illuminated in the colors of the tricolor on the evening of August 27, when the Republic of Moldova marks 35 years since the proclamation of its independence.

According to the Parliament’s Communication and Public Relations Department, the illumination of the building represents a message of unity and a reaffirmation of the values that formed the basis of the proclamation of independence, including sovereignty, freedom and democracy.

The events dedicated to the 35 years of independence began on the morning of August 27 with flower-laying ceremonies, followed by the military parade held in Chisinau. More than 2,000 soldiers and representatives of law enforcement and security structures took part in the event.

The festive schedule concludes this evening with a concert featuring more local artists.

The Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova was adopted by Parliament on August 27, 1991. The proclamation of independence was preceded by the national revival movement of the late 1980s, which called for the democratization of society, the return to the Latin alphabet and the affirmation of the Romanian language and national identity.

The founding document proclaims the Republic of Moldova as a sovereign, independent and democratic state, with the right to freely determine its domestic and foreign policy.
