VIDEO // President of Albania visits National Art Museum’s exhibition of icons, old art

President of Albania Bajram Begaj, on an official visit to Moldova, has visited the National Art Museum of Moldova. The Albanian head of state was presented with the institution’s permanent exhibition, which includes icons and works of old art, as well as pieces by contemporary visual artists of Moldova.

Culture Minister Cristian Jardan accompanied the President of Albania, together with the First Lady of Albania. The officials had discussions about art, history and the role of museums in preserving cultural memory.

“Today, I had the pleasant opportunity, together with the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, accompanied by his wife, to visit the National Art Museum of Moldova. His Excellency was presented with the museum’s permanent exhibition, from icons and old art to works by contemporary visual artists from Moldova. It was a good opportunity to discuss art, history and the role of museums in preserving cultural memory, an effort in which the National Art Museum of Moldova also plays a part,” said Culture Minister Cristian Jardan.

Representatives of the museum noted that it was an honor to host the official visit of Albania’s president and to present the institution’s collections.

President of Albania Bajram Begaj is in Moldova on January 18–20, this being the first official visit by an Albanian head of state in more than 20 years. The visit takes place in the context of boosted bilateral relations between the two countries, both candidates for accession to the European Union.
