Moldovan government indexes minimum guaranteed monthly income
The minimum guaranteed monthly income will be indexed by 6.8 per cent as of April 1, 2026. The draft decision providing for this measure was included on the agenda of the government meeting due on March 11.
According to the decision, after indexation, the level of the minimum guaranteed monthly income will amount to 1,869 lei for adults and 1,944 lei for children. The indexation coefficient was set, taking into account the inflation rate at the end of the previous year.
The authorities say that the periodic adjustment of the minimum guaranteed monthly income makes it possible to improve the level of social protection for vulnerable people, reduce social inequalities and ensure fair and non-discriminatory treatment for social assistance beneficiaries.
Forecasts for 2026 show that the average number of social assistance beneficiaries is estimated at 16,157 people per month, with an average monthly benefit of about 2,400 lei.
The explanatory note to the draft specifies that the implementation of the initiative does not require additional allocations from the state budget, since the update of the minimum guaranteed monthly income, starting from 1 April 2026, is already included in the 2026 State Budget.
According to legal provisions, the minimum guaranteed monthly income is indexed every year on April 1. The indexation coefficient corresponds to the inflation rate at the end of the previous year, expressed through the increase in consumer prices in December of that year compared to the same month of the previous year.
